How to do nothing, productively

I sat in the garden for an hour yesterday and did nothing. Not meditating, not “being mindful” — just sitting, watching a bee work the zinnias like it was getting paid by the flower.
Everything in me wanted to make it productive. Deadhead something. Weed something. Turn the compost like the compost keeps score. I didn’t. The garden didn’t seem to mind.
Here’s what I noticed from the chair: the tomatoes don’t hurry. Nothing out there is optimizing. Growth is just what happens while you’re busy sitting still.
I’m calling it research. An hour of field observation. The field notes say: do less, notice more, repeat as needed.
